Need any wedding present ideas?
The Venus Flower Basket. This is a type of glass sponge I learned about in my bio lab. Beautiful. It's the only way to describe it because it really is so beautiful. As we learned more about one of natures' masterpiece we learned this is a common wedding present in Japan. It made sense to me, something so beautiful, ornate, and to decorate in your new home. Contrary to popular belief, or my belief that is, this is not the reason.
This glass sponge is in a symbiosis relationship with shrimp. My professor said sometimes the eggs get caught inside and the shrimp stay there (essentially trapped) for the rest of their lives until they die. What a sad life...and even sadder, is that supposed to be symbolic of marriage?! Don't want to be married in Japan then.
Ok, now to clear things up a bit. I have been trying to come up with better symbolism than that for the past couple weeks and my imagination wasn't taking me anywhere. Finally I decided to Google it (or Topeka it, or for better terminology, I searched on Topeka) for its official name Euplectella aspergillum and luckily found some better symbolism than being trapped until the end of your days.
In Japan, this is given as a wedding present because of the symbolism with the sponge and its symbiosis relationship with shrimp (plural). When the sponge matures, the top of it closes and, "as this happens, a pair of shrimps, one male and one female, will stay inside the Venus flower basket and become trapped there"(Dietrich 2006). To the Japanese this is a symbol of love and being happily married forever. Still don't like the trapped part...but much better than what I thought. After all, it is a beautiful wedding present!

Engagement Preview!
We had a small window of opportunity to take some snap shots of us being all lovey dovey and this was it! Utah's signature springtime snow came to help us out to make it more dramatic. That being the case, we got some outside and inside photos with an umbrella to keep us warm (or comforted).
Our photography was taken by Bella Luminoso and they did a wonderful job as they always do! If you are looking for a photographer you should definitely check them out! Their blog is here (for some great advice) and if you want to look at some more pictures you should go here as well! Along with doing a great job at weddings their portraits are very beautiful.

Last pic of the day!

Peeps in a Box!
You may be thinking of these delicious marshmallow fluffs,
but nope! I am thinking of these cute little chicks in their chick crate (formally known as a Happy Meal). The brown one is my favorite! She loves me. I named her Fannie Mae.
When I tried to put her in her new home she wouldn't hop off my hands like the rest of them. When I would tilt my hand to help the baby chick it would balance on the other side of my hand as to not fall off. So cute. When I would go and check on them this cute little one would still loves to be held!
Already showing her alpha dominance in the roost.
Jarom's parents are getting some more chickens this year and they let me go and get a few of them (for my initiation into the family of course, or at least what Ken said). I wanted to find a pink one, but they didn't have any in season yet...probably in a couple more weeks close to Easter.

Yogurt Stop
Jarom got the whole family to come out on a Friday night to get some fro yo!
There were so many middle school kids that we had to get the baby chairs to sit around the table (hence why Stacy's head is right next to the table).
Katelyn even stopped by with a few of her friends.
